The Artist

Tom Cies, born in Los Angeles in 1951, studied architecture at the University of Southern California and lives in the Napa Valley, with turns in Mexico, Spain, France and Italy. His modernist paintings are informed by the abstract constructs found in the California School of the late 20th Century, recalling Richard Diebenkorn and Wayne Thiebaud, while expressing the lyricism and subtle depth of French Modernism (1885--1917) inspired by Paul Cezanne, Juan Gris, and Georges Braque.
